Atlanta Robotics Club
The Atlanta Robotics Club (ARC) is a group of parents and children coming together for a journey where growth in friendship and character are the destination, and robots are the way.
Friendship
"The happy man in this life needs friends" -Aquinas
The FIRST Lego League (FLL) robotics competitions provide a common activity through which we grow in friendship. In friendship we find the company to celebrate accomplishments, the guide to make decisions, and the support to overcome challenges.
Character
"Character is what you have left over if you ever go broke" - James Stenson
Good character consists of moral habits of the mind (the way we think), habits of the heart (the way we feel), and habits of action (the way we behave). As parents we want our children to be happy, and we consider good character essential for that.
Robots
"We're not using kids to build robots. We're using robots to build kids" - Dean Kamen
Within FLL, we have found a fun stream of S.T.E.M. challenges that allow us to witness and enjoy our children as they discover their unique talents and personalities, and to coach them to grow in character.
First Lego League
The First Lego League (FLL) organizes international "more than robots" competitions in which we have found an instrument to achieve our goals.
The Atlanta Robotics Club is organized separately from the FLL organization and has teams participating in all 3 age based FLL programs

Quantity vs. AND Quality time
After a 3 hour session of intense work preparing the robot, the code, and the innovation project presentation for the regional competition, we noticed the kids were all smiles. Amused, we asked, "What did you like about today?"
The reply, "... I spent a long time working with my dad."
Outreach

Our Coaches
At ARC, the parents are the coaches, mentors, and volunteers. We consider this our greatest strength. Our kids have the opportunity to see their parents' professional skills deployed in a fun and enriching environment. Also, the parents, who know their kids best and love them the most, have the opportunity to coach their kids in a personalized way with an affectionate assertiveness that naturally comes to them.
